In Bush Hill Park local people are providing information and pictures for a new website which is being launched by the staff at the Bush Hill Park library.

On Saturday 6th December there will be an opportunity at the library for local people to add their stories, celebrations and news events to the growing archive, which was started in the summer. Library staff will be on hand to record memories and will include photos and items of local interest.

People are contributing their own photos and stories building a unique picture of an area and how it has grown and developed.

Cllr Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, ”We are all interested in events from the past. The recent history recorded on this website will bring back some cherished memories, some laughter and some insight as we see how people lived during the war and the immediate post war period and how the area has developed.”

Some examples of Bush Hill Park over 50 years ago include some pictures from former resident, Brian Grayston:

1953 Coronation celebrations – Brian is at the back dressed as Old Mother Riley. His story appears on the website.

Brr – the winter of 1947

The Purity Laundry in Charles Street in the Great Freeze-Up of 1947

Memories from all periods are welcome – right up to the present.
