Over 200 volunteers of all ages visited the Civic Centre on Monday to receive their certificates for completing over 100 hours of volunteering during the year, from player Chris Gunter from Spurs and Eastenders / Dr Who actress Lindsey Coulson.

Those receiving their awards, who come from all ages, backgrounds and communities have worked as a volunteer with groups such as children and young people, those with mental health problems and learning difficulties, people with disabilities, older people, members of the black and minority ethnic community, sports clubs and other community groups.

Part of Enfield Council’s Local Area Agreement is to increase the amount of volunteering going on in the borough, and to facilitate this the council launched the ‘100 Hours Scheme’ which involved a number of people who all agreed to give up a minimum of 100 hours of their time to good causes.

Cllr Mike Rye, Leader of the Council said “It was wonderful to meet all of these volunteers who have given up so much time to work with so many different sections of the community.

“Our special guests, actress Lindsey Coulson, and player Chris Gunter were especially popular with the guests. It was a very special occasion which I was delighted to be a part of.

“Volunteers are very special people, without them many organisations and groups would not be able to function. Today we pay tribute to their contribution.”
