Hundreds of revellers braved the rain and mud at Enfield’s Autumn show last weekend to have a knees up with Ska Legends Bad Manners.

Despite the bad weather - the band – which shot to fame in the early 1980s with top ten hits including a version of the ‘Can Can’ – played to a large crowd last Saturday (6 September) in support of Enfield Council’s ‘Ten Million Can’ challenge.

Lead Vocalist Buster Bloodvessel – who celebrated his 50th birthday on the day - said: “I could not believe the turnout. The weather was not good but everyone seemed to have a great time.

“I hope our appearance has helped the Council in its recycling campaign and that they hit the ten million can mark.”

Sally Coates – of Enfield Council’s communications team - who were instrumental in signing up the act - said: “The rain and the mud almost reminded me of Glastonbury on one its wetter days but Bad Manners were fantastic. They certainly know how to put on a show and made it a day to remember!

Enfield Councillor Terry Neville – cabinet member for environment said: “Bad Manners appearance has helped highlight our campaign to an even wider audience. Enfield is already one of the best boroughs for recycling in London but there is so much more we can all do.”

Enfield Council has a recycling a rate of 30%. Residents recycled 28.8 million cans last financial year – that’s 103 cans each.

Cllr Neville – said: “Recycling has become even more important now Britain and the world is entering the biggest energy crisis since the seventies.

“If Enfield’s 280, 000 residents recycled 36 cans each it would save enough energy to power 1.4 million homes in one day – that’s probably enough to light up the whole of North London!”
