Tennis team serves some winners
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-07-02 14:40:05Enfield’s youth tennis team, trained by James Droy attended the London Youth Games competition at Redbridge Sports Centre recently with a mixed ability team of boys and girls.
Boys’ team: Andrew Mabey, Joe Goldfarb Charlie Rudge
Girls’ team: Rachel Ryan, Emily Tarling
Rachel Ryan, aged 14 was the youngest competitor in the team and was on fine form winning three out of the four matches. Emily Tarling played extremely well considering it was her first major tournament.
James Goldfarb was a great talent his talent, while Andrew Mabey won the last singles match clinching a second place for Enfield in their group.
Charlie Rudge kept his cool after a close encounter in the mixed doubles match against Kensington & Chelsea, in which he and Emily, his partner, won 7 – 6 in a close tie-break finish.
Tennis team manager, James Droy, said, “There is real enthusiasm and talent in this team. I am delighted that these young people have taken the time to train and enjoy their tennis.
“Our thanks to the Hazelwood Squash & Tennis Club for the use of their venue for the trials and training for the Youth Games Tennis teams. This support has contributed to our success.”
Enfield’s sports and development team has a great summer programme of Tennis in the Parks and mini tennis for juniors, Senior sports officer, Usha Sisodiya, said, “Here’s a chance to perfect those important shots, learn to serve and get some top coaching.”
