Take a leap back in time to the days of the English Civil War at this weekend event, which recreates the period when Forty Hall was just built.

See how 17th Century people, lived, worked, played and fought at the military encampment on the back lawn of the hall where you can get a closer look at camp life.

Ask questions and see demonstrations of musket firing and enjoy a variety of crafts and entertainment of the period.

Forty Hall manager, Gavin Williams said, “This is an entertaining way to find out about a fascinating period of British History. Sir Nicholas Rainton, owner of Forty Hall, lived through the end of the Tudor period up to the beginning of the English Civil War.

“It was the start of commerce when merchants took over from knights as the main protagonists in the affairs of state. By the end of this period Britain was progressing towards a Parliamentary state, bringing to an end the notion that monarchs had a divine right to govern.”

Cllr Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, added, “Now in its fourth year this popular event always attracts interest and delights all generations. Forty Hall provides the perfect setting for a weekend when history is brought so vividly to life.”
