Riverside festival celebrates environment

New River Arts Festival

Sunday 13th July

Recycling, the environment and the history of the New River are the themes of this year’s New River Festival.

Now into its 6th year this festival is firmly established in Enfield’s Calendar celebrating the river and the arts.

The council’s Arts & Events team has been working with the Wipe Out Waste Team and the Enfield Society to meet the themes of this year's show.

Cllr Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, “This will be an entertaining afternoon with so much to do you will wonder why it is over so quickly.”

Activities, workshops and entertainments are free.

Guided Walk: (2-2.30pm)

Enfield Town Heritage Walk by Brenda Soutar

Family Workshops: (12-4.30)

Art Start- Contribute to a large community sculpture made from recycled carry bags. Please bring as many used carry bags as you like!

Brand new enterprise in Enfield

There will be 12 foot green puppets and insect puppets heralding the festival and walking up and down Church Street.

There will be art works based on the themes of the New River displayed in the participating shop windows along Church Street.

There will also be food for sale including sausages, Turkish, Lebanese and vegetarian stalls.

For the first time in the history of the festival there will also be a surprise activity at Fountains Island, bringing the New River Festival into the heart of Enfield Town.
