More students achieving a higher level of success

This year Enfield’s A Level students achieved a massive 96.9% pass rate with 3,617 (3,555 in 2007) students entered. The higher number of students entered makes this outcome all the more pleasing.

The improvement of the average points score from 200.1 to 214.6 means that more young people are obtaining the higher grades across a greater number of subjects.

Peter Lewis, director of education, children’s services and leisure, said, “These excellent results are a measure of the hard work and commitment that our young people are putting in to their studies. Year on year they are making improvements and I wish them all every success.”

Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth added, “Our young people have worked extremely hard and thoroughly deserve these results. I am delighted that our schools are achieving great results with many well above the national average pass rate of 97.2%. Well done and congratulations.”

Ben Boxall with Rachel Lawson from Bishop Stopford School in Ponders End – Ben plans to go to Hull York Medical School after his four science As. Rachel got two Cs and a D for history, geography and English language and is working in digital media.

In Enfield some students aged 16 and over studied BTEC courses, diploma courses and International Baccalaureate so ‘A’ and ‘AS’ levels are just one measure of the performance of our young people.

Although the A level results are provisional, they are a good indicator of the great progress being made in Enfield’s schools and final results will be published in the Achievement and Attainment Tables in January 2009 for all post-16 qualifications studied by pupils in Enfield schools and colleges.

Pam Rutherford, head teacher at Enfield County, said, “This has been our best year for A Level results and I am thrilled that so many of our students have done so well. It is also very promising for next year with the AS level

The 2007 points per entry are taken from the 2007 Achievement and Attainment Tables and cover all A level and A level equivalent results.

The 2008 information is for A level only and does not include any other equivalent results (such as AS, BTEC, Vocational Double Awards) as there is not a complete picture from all schools

Highlands School students study for the International Baccalaureate and have not been included as they have not studied A level courses. Their figures will be reported as part of the Achievement and Attainment Tables.
