Children at Galliard Primary School in Edmonton are at the forefront of using information and communications technology to enhance their work, and that’s official!

Following an extensive assessment by BECTA, the British Education Communications and Technology Agency, the government funded body responsible for promoting the use of ICT in Britain’s schools, Galliard has been awarded the prestigious ICT Mark.

The award recognises the school’s success in developing the strategic use of ICT in both administration and across the curriculum.

Dick Mitchell, the council’s expert for ICT in schools, said, “Enfield Council is determined that all local children will have the best opportunity to excel in the jobs market of the future. Galliard should be congratulated on this wonderful achievement. This demonstrates the excellent ICT management and teaching that is taking place in local schools.”

Head teacher Rosemarie Hopkins added, “We are delighted to be awarded the ICT Mark. It recognises our positive approach to ICT and the benefits it is bringing to our children. We believe that ICT can be used in every aspect of learning and that it is essential our children are equipped for the modern world.”

Neil McLean, executive director for educational practice at BECTA said, ”Galliard thoroughly deserves the accolade of an ICT mark. They clearly demonstrate how important it is to take a holistic approach to using ICT in schools. Their investment in new technology has contributed to substantial improvements in learning with Galliard achieving its best ever SATs results this year. “

Peter Lewis, director for education, children’s services and leisure, said, “Clearly the pioneering spirit with ICT at Galliard is paying dividends. Children and staff are making good use of ICT, which is enabling them to perform well in every way. Congratulations.”

Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth, added, “Galliard can be very proud of this achievement which is giving an added dimension to the children’s learning and to the efficient running of the school. Well done.”
