Join the top ten for lifeguard training
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-08-19 10:20:55In September ten young people from Edmonton will have a great opportunity to train as lifeguards at the Edmonton Leisure Centre on a free course sponsored by Enfield Council.
“We are looking for ten people aged between 18 and 24 who can swim at least 400metres and are keen to work with people. The Edmonton Leisure Centre is always on the look out for lifeguards.
“The training starts in late September and there is the prospect of full employment for those who complete it successfully, “ said programme co-ordinator, Anna Loughlin.
The course is designed to encourage unemployed youngsters who are not on any training scheme. They will be put through their paces in life saving, health and safety and learn how an efficient pool and leisure facility is managed.
Anna continued, “We want our trainee lifeguards to get a real insight into this work and gain in confidence over a strenuous week.”
Cllr Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics added, “This course will equip our young people for real employment opportunities so I urge strong swimmers who want to work in the leisure industry to apply and enjoy a course that could be the start of a great career.”
Steve Goddard, interim Operations Manager at Enfield Leisure Centres Limited, agreed, “Leisure centres cannot operate without fully trained lifeguards and we value their skills. Their work is essential for all our swimmers. With our focus on the Olympics in Beijing and the preparations for London in four years time we are going to need additional lifeguards in all our centres.”
Young people who want to come on the course please call 020 8379 1506 as soon as possible. Applications must be in before 5th September.
