Bush Hill Park Library is 60 this year

To celebrate Bush Hill Park and its library, people are invited to bring photos and items of interest to the library and to enjoy reminiscing about Bush Hill Park from10.30am – 4pm on Saturday 16th August.

What was Bush Hill Park like 60 years ago? How often would residents have visited the library with their children?

Library staff will record /copy memories to build an online community archive, which will form a lasting record of the Bush Hill Park area and its library.

At 10.30am, local historian, Graham Dalling, will be a talking about the history of Bush Hill Park.

There will be a range of free and fun activities for the family:

2 - 4 pm Stories and entertainment by children’s story teller Richard Neville

3.30 pm Cutting the cake

Plans for the new look Bush Hill Park library will also be on display showing how the library will be enlarged. Other plans include more PCs, a music studio, better space for children and young people and a community room as well as all the library services currently on offer.

Cllr Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, “It will be fascinating to hear about the early days of the library and see just how much libraries have changed.

“Libraries are important places of learning and culture and we want to remind people just how significant they were 60 years ago and how they can respond to local needs today.”
