Next year European elections are held on 4 June. In order to vote in this or any election, voters’ names must appear on the electoral register.

Each year Enfield Council has to create a new register by bringing existing information up to date.

Election team manager, Val Robinson, said, “Alterations such as changes of address, adding new voters, and removing the names of people, who have died or moved away, are gathered through a canvassing process that starts on Friday 22nd August this year.

“Registration forms are being delivered to all residential properties in the borough so that information can be confirmed or altered.

“Residents can respond by telephone or online if they just need to confirm that the details printed on the form are correct. If changes need to be made then they must return the form with any alterations.”

The second stage of this boroughwide canvass starts on Thursday 18 September and ends on 18th October. Canvassers with photographic identification will be calling at addresses where residents have not responded.

Where a canvasser has not managed to meet residents to complete the forms reminders are sent out. Details from the returned forms will be used to create the new register.

Council leader, Mike Rye, said, “I urge people to return their forms so that they don’t miss the chance to vote. Everyone over the age of 18 has the right to vote so 17 year olds who will be 18 before 4th June should ensure their names are added to the form before it is returned.”

The forms are the only source of information used for the register, which is published on 1 December 2008.
