Estate Tours take place on Saturday 9 August at 11am 12.15pm and 2pm

Forty Hall and Estate will host a public exhibition and tours focused on its future as Enfield Council’s vision seeks funding to restore and enhance the listed house and grounds. The event will be an opportunity for the public to gain an understanding of the proposal and to give their views to the project team.

The popular historic estate has changed significantly since its 17th century days. Enfield Council appointed landscape architects, LDA Design, and the Paul Drury Partnership, a heritage consultancy, to help put together a bid for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to accentuate some of the historic elements that have disappeared, or become forgotten, over the years.

Cllr Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, “Forty Hall is a huge asset to the area and we are determined to realise its full potential so that people, both from Enfield and further away, continue to be attracted to what it has to offer.”

Council leader Mike Rye added, “The proposals will reinstate elements of the historic landscape while creating better visitor facilities; increase educational opportunities and help protect both building and grounds for future generations to enjoy.”

Andrew Harland, partner of LDA Design added: “Forty Hall has a fabulous history as well as setting; the grounds contain the archaeological remains of Elsyng Palace, royal home to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I and there are a great many other features, dating back to the early days of the Estate, that we want to emphasise.”

The proposals for the Forty Hall Estate include the restoration of the lime avenues, ornamental pond and summerhouse; improvements to the café and banqueting suite courtyards and the opening up of views currently obscured by overgrown vegetation.

An exhibition and tours for the public to see the proposals in full will take place between Saturday 9 August and Friday 15 August during Forty Hall’s usual opening hours (Wednesday to Sunday, 11am-4pm) with guided tours of the hall and the estate taking place on Saturday 9 August to explain the development project.
