Eight artists in the top ten

Eight Winchmore students have just been informed that they are among the top ten in the country who achieved the highest overall marks in their GCSE Art and Design exam.
A total of 36,294 students sat for the Edexel exam nationally and for one school to have eight students in the top ten is a remarkable achievement.
The following students gained the highest overall marks Manika Gurung, Priya Tailor, Elena Stavrou, Zerrin Simsek, Rezhaw Karadaghi, Naomi Fawcett and Aydana Abieva.

Jerry Jarvis Edexel’s managing director said, “This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work students put into preparing fir their exams. We send our congratulations to Winchmore.”
Headteacher Lesley Mansbridge said “As an Arts College we are delighted for these students. Our outstanding staff and students have worked so hard to achieve those superb results. A school having eight in the top ten of one subject is unheard of. The Arts at Winchmore go from strength to strength.”
Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth, said, “This is a truly remarkable achievement from these young people. For so many of them to excel in this way placing them in the nation’s top ten is just exceptional. Warm congratulations to them and their teachers – Well done Winchmore.”
Peter Lewis, director for education, children’s services and leisure, added, ”This is an extraordinary result for one school and we can all be very proud of this fantastic achievement.”
