De Bohun Primary School in Green Road, Southgate, is a good school with many outstanding features. In their report Ofsted inspectors praised the school’s overall effectiveness stating that ‘ …. It provides a good education for pupils. ‘

The school was judged under a number of headings and did particularly well with a majority of Grade 1 scores indicating an ‘outstanding’ performance.

In a letter to pupils, lead inspector, Mike Smith, writes, “We really enjoyed talking to you and we were very pleased to see how well you all look after each other. We agree with you and your parents that your school is good and helps you to do your very best.

“We think that you make good progress in your lessons. All the staff work really well together to make sure you get any extra help you may need. You can help by keeping a close watch on your targets and working as hard as you can to achieve them. Here are some other things we particularly liked about your school.”

Inspectors noted that pupils were: friendly and polite to everyone, enjoyed lessons and worked well together. Behaviour is good and children clearly understand how to be safe and healthy. The curriculum offers interesting and relevant learning opportunities.

After school activities and breakfast clubs are very popular. Here children learn useful skills that help them when they move to secondary school.

The school works very effectively with other people to ensure that all pupils are well supported and it is led and managed well.

All staff have the pupils’ interests at heart working with headteacher, Terry Scott and governors to improve even further. They are currently developing ways to help improve standards and achievements and they looking at ways to ensure the very best practice in lessons is effectively shared amongst all staff.

Head teacher Terry Scott, said, “DeBohun has made great strides and we are delighted with this Ofsted report. All staff, governors, children and parents have made a considerable contribution to this success and we shall continue to build on it. I thank everyone for their enthusiasm and determination to make even more improvements.”

Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth, said, “Well done. DeBohun has done so well and deserves this great Ofsted report.”

Peter Lewis, director for education, children’s services and leisure, added, “This is a school where children are happy and doing well and staff pull together. Congratulations to everyone on this achievement.”
