Bob Griffiths – head of Enfield Council’s commercial standards said: “Anyone who has drunk this counterfeit Vodka should seek immediate medical advice.

“Although the levels of methanol found in this drink, are not at a dangerous levels, they are higher than those found in genuine products and can cause severe side affects, including dizziness and blurred vision.”

The fake Vodka bottles can be identified by the following codes found on them:

• 70cl 58mm C121736

• SE607 700ml 66mm

• 8509 700mk 66mm

• 7828 700ml 66mm

Mr Griffiths warned shopkeepers to spot the signs of dodgy traders selling the fake booze.

He said: “The majority of counterfeit goods are sold directly to retailers by passing traders or white van operators, who are unlikely to provide any contact details or paperwork.

“My advice is steer well clear of these white van man types because if you buy any bogus booze and someone because ill, we will trace it back to you and we will prosecute you.”
