Two more burglars off the streets thanks to Safer Neighbourhood Teams
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-03-04 10:30:11Two incidents during February underlined the importance of the Safer Neighbourhood Estate Unit in keeping Enfield safe.
On 7th February a man was seen acting suspiciously in Swayling Close, N18. When searched by PCSO Coules he was found to be carrying three watches, a camcorder, a pair of socks and a crowbar! He was arrested and it later transpired that he had burgled a house in Weir Hall Road and was waiting to off load his booty.
He has since admitted to committing four further burglaries in the borough.
On the 14th February love was not on the mind of a young man caught smashing a window on the Brettenham Estate in N18. Alerted by the sound of the breaking glass PSCO’s Finch and Carter sprang into action and discovered the man using a fire extinguisher to try and break out of a doctor’s surgery. The man was detained as he exited the surgery, covered in blood and glass, and was charged with burglary.
Cllr Ertan Hurer, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and the Voluntary Sector said “Yet again our PCSO’s are proving their worth by apprehending criminals whilst out on patrol.
“If not for these officers being out and about on the streets of the borough these burglars would still be at large, no doubt still committing crimes and causing misery to residents. Well done.”
