Anne Frank (+ You)

Southgate College

High Street N14

Enfield Council is presenting this powerful and moving exhibition from the Anne Frank Trust which uses modern multi – media presentations to tell the tragic story of Anne Frank and the horrors of Nazi - occupied Europe.

It asks tough questions relevant for all young people today.

Some 60 years after her death Anne Frank is remembered all over the world as the spirited 13 year old who hid with her family from the Nazis.

Her story is told in her diary, which she kept during their period in hiding in Amsterdam. At the heart of this exhibition are Anne Frank’s words, wisdom and values.

As well as representing the Holocaust and more recent genocides,

Anne Frank (+ you) confronts contemporary issues including racism in football, bullying and the plight of child soldiers.

Linked to Anne’s life and writing, the exhibition presents five themes:

Racial hatred

Conflict and peace

Inclusion and exclusion

Democracy and dictatorship

Responsibility and indifference

The exhibition is recommended for age groups 10 years and up. Created by an award winning team, it is a multi media fact-finding experience including:

The Anne Frank photo album

Replica artefacts from Anne’s life

The chilling genocide tunnel with powerful film footage

An almost life-sized replica of Anne’s room in the ‘Secret Annexe’ where Anne and her family hid for two years

An interactive virtual tour of the ‘Secret Annexe’

Anne’s writing set against powerful graphic imagery of the social issues of today. Many young people will recognise that their dreams, hopes and fears are not that different to those of Anne Frank.

Contemporary exhibition panels

For all pupils this exhibition provides a springboard for discussion linked to history and citizenship teaching.

For all visitors this exhibition offers an unrivalled insight into the mind of a child who showed courage and the ability to hold on to what is worthwhile – even in the most terrifying of times.

In its boldness this exhibition cannot fail to make us think and consider what lessons can be learned for today.

Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth, said, “Enfield Council is proud to present this important and moving exhibition. It will always be relevant and we can all learn from it.”

Council Leader, Mike Rye, added, “I hope that many people and schools visit this exhibition and take away something from it. It is powerful, moving and tragic – and has something to say to everybody.”
