The area around South Street is now the subject of a Section 30 Dispersal Order which will be in force until 27.4.08.
A Dispersal Order gives the police powers to move people on or split up groups on the street, as well as take young people to their home or a safe place if they’re out after 9pm.
The Order was brought in as quite a significant amount of crimes are committed within the area, mostly thefts from vehicles, assault, and drug possession.

Ponders End Youth Centre is within the area of the Dispersal Order, and specific arrangements will be made for young people entering and leaving the centre.
Cllr Ertan Hurer, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and the Voluntary Sector said: “I would like to thank police and council officers who have worked tirelessly gathering evidence for several weeks to support this application.
“South Street residents have complained for some time about anti social behaviour that a small minority of people have been causing, especially incidents involving motor vehicle crime and drug dealing.
“This Order prevents young people gathering in gangs, ‘hanging about’ and committing anti social behaviour.”
Sergeant Barry Green, Safer Neighbourhood Ponders End Ward said "Since taking temporary charge of the ward in October 2007 this Dispersal Order has been my primary goal. It gives police additional powers to deal with those people who make other residents lives unpleasant.
“We actually executed four drugs warrants the day the Dispersal Order went live. We have also started a graffiti clean up campaign with council colleagues. Watch this space for further activities!.”
In an emergency always ring 999.
If you wish to report anti social behaviour in the South Street area telephone 0208 721 2682.
