Accelerated reader programme - eight quiz successes win prizes
Children attending schools in the Ordnance Road area are participating in an exciting reading programme at Ordnance Road Library designed to help them become better readers.
All year 5 and year 6 pupils (aged 9 – 11 years) from Chesterfield, Eastfield, Freezywater St Georges, Keys Meadow and Prince of Wales primary schools are registered to take online quizzes at the library after school, testing their knowledge of books they have read.
They are awarded prizes for working towards their goal of passing eight quizzes, and those who achieve scores of 100% will be entered into a draw for a family ticket to Paradise Park.
Children’s librarian, Lucy Love, says, “Children’s Accelerated Reader is a great way to help improve a child’s reading skills. Parents and children are being encouraged to visit the library to check out books from the special Accelerated Reader collection and return to take quizzes.”
Cllr Paul McCannah, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, added, “This is a fun way to get children enjoying books. For those who have not visited the library there is still time to take part in a quiz –and improve their reading – and even win a prize. Congratulations to those children who have already shown achievement in Accelerated Reader.”
Pupils have until the term break in February to reach their goal and earn 100% draw tickets. Winners will be invited to a special celebration and awards ceremony at the library in March.
