Due to numerous acts of anti social behaviour a new Dispersal Order covering Silver Street, Edmonton, comes into force today.

The area it covers encompasses Pymmes Park, Silver Street, Millfield Theatre, Silver Street railway station, the Klinger Estate, and it also borders Aylward School.

The Order will be operational between Monday 10th March 2008 to Sunday 7th September 2008.

The reason that the Dispersal Order has been brought in has been due to various problems in the area including burglaries, drug dealing, and general anti social behaviour possibly connected to gangs.

Cllr Ertan Hurer, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and the Voluntary Sector said “This Dispersal Order has been requested by the Haselbury Safer Neighbourhood Ward Team and the police Borough Intelligence Unit.

“This area has recently become difficult to police, with incidents ranging from firearms being discovered, to repeated calls to the same individuals causing anti social behaviour. There has also been open drug dealing and incidents of theft.

“The Dispersal Order will be an important tool to allow police to disperse gatherings of youths and be able to start to tackle some of the problems in this area”

Inspector Dave Sanders, Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “Police are determined to robustly tackle crime and anti social behaviour to make the streets of Enfield safe for the local community to live and work.

“A Dispersal Order started today which covers Silver Street and the surrounding area, which sees Haselbury Safer Neighbourhood Team using their local knowledge, coupled with a common sense approach, to ensure compliance.

“To support the Team, local police patrols will be increased, and CCTV will be used effectively.

“The overall aim is to reduce crime and the fear of crime, working closely with our partners and customer focus groups to achieve long term stability in the area.”
