Councillor Anne-Marie Pearce, Chairman of Enfield's Health Scrutiny Panel, was approached by the Enfield Branch of the Parkinson's Disease Society in 2006 about the lack of support for those with the illness. Since then the Panel and Cllr Pearce have campaigned tirelessly to provide Enfield with its own specialist nurse with much needed expertise.

The national Parkinson’s Disease Society has a grant funding scheme which will fully fund the post for two years on the agreement that the funding will be continued after this date by the PCT, which has been agreed.

The nurse is due to be in post by April 2008.

Cllr Anne-Marie Pearce, Chairman of the Health Panel said “I am absolutely delighted to hear that we have secured the funding for this vital post for all those people who live with Parkinson’s Disease, their families and carers who live in Enfield.

“I was very pleased with the positive response from Enfield PCT and in particular the Chief Executive Tracey Baldwin.

“Having a dedicated nurse will make all the difference to the 700 plus people in the borough who live with this disease, and who need to access different kinds of help to make their life easier.“
