This year’s schools dance festival, ‘London Calling’, takes its inspiration from the Olympics cultural activities starting this year.
Over 1,300 youngsters from 50 Enfield schools are taking part in this dance extravaganza at the Millfield Theatre interpreting ideas and imagery about London as one of the world’s most exciting and historic cities.
Enfield’s PE consultant, Jan Hickman, said, “This year our dance festival celebrates London as a host city for the 2012 Olympics. Pupils aged from 5 – 19 will present their dance interpretations of London in a highly original way – and I can promise audiences that they will have a truly enjoyable time.”
Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and youth, added, “This is a joyful week showcasing imaginative routines that have taken a lot of hard work to perfect. It is a shining example of the very best that our schools have to offer.”
Cllr Paul McCannah, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics pointed out, “Between now and 2012 many cultural festivals are taking place across the UK.
“As one of these events, Enfield Schools Dance Festival sets an extremely high standard contributing to the national celebrations that not only give audiences so much pleasure, but also promote London as the next host city.”
The Festival takes place over four days. Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th, Thursday 27th (matinee and evening on Thursday) & Friday 28th March at the Millfield Theatre. Tickets at £8 available from 10 March from the box office:
