Enfield has joined together with British Gas to help improve the energy efficiency of homes in parts of the borough by installing free insulation and heating to householders who receive benefits.

The Warmth and Comfort Scheme, which is also being run in 5 other London boroughs, is for householders who own their own home or rent it from a private landlord. It offers a range of ways to make your home energy efficient for FREE, including upgrading and installing central heating systems, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation. You need to be receiving income related benefits to qualify.

Anyone interested is visited by an engineer from British Gas who will assess whether their property fails to reach the Decent Homes Standard set by the Government in 2004. If the house falls below this standard on insulation or heating it will qualify.

David Legg, Head of Private Sector Housing said “Most of us are concerned about the cost of heating bills. This is especially true for those on income related benefits.”

Cllr Matthew Laban, Cabinet Member for Housing said “This scheme aims to make sure that homes are as energy efficient as possible. But this scheme goes further, because cutting down on the cost of heating homes helps the environment, something Enfield Council is committed to.

“If you think you qualify, ring the British Gas freephone number below. You have nothing to lose.”
