Over two hundred volunteers of all ages visited the Civic Centre on Monday to receive their certificates for completing over 100 hours of volunteering during the year from top Spurs player Yuri Berchiche.

The volunteers, who are of all ages, volunteered through many different organisations such as the police, schools, scouts, colleges, shops and charitable organisations plus many others.

Part of the council’s Local Area Agreement is to increase the amount of volunteering going on in the borough, and to facilitate this the council launched the ‘100 Club’ which involved a number of people who all agreed to give up a minimum of 100 hours of their time to good causes.

Niki Nicolaou, Senior Grants Officer said “We had such a huge response from the volunteers who took part this year, and the amazing thing is the diversity of the people who took part. Some are young, some have learning difficulties and some of the people who put themselves forward are older people, so there is no barrier to volunteering.

“Volunteering is a great way to get involved in your local community and to feel you have made a difference. There is still time to get involved so why not become one of our 100 Club next year?

“It was great meeting all of our volunteers, and they all had a great time with Yuri.”
