Silver screen heroines show new films
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-04-17 10:29:43Two young filmmakers from Enfield are showing their first short feature films at the Museum of Domestic Art, MoDA Lecture Theatre at Middlesex University, Cat Hill, Barnet at 7pm on Tuesday 29th April.
Pui Shan Ng and Laura Windebank, were the final winners from a number of entrants applying for funding from the Enfield Short Film Fund in September last year.
Based on the quality of their proposals and their original scripts they were each awarded £2,000 with mentoring support to develop and create their films.
Pui Shan Ng’s ten-minute comedy, ‘Merry Go Round’ is set among the tower blocks of Edmonton. This is an upbeat and quirky story, showing Edmonton in a refreshingly romantic context.
Slightly longer at 14 minutes, Laura Windebank’s ‘Close’ is set in a block of flats in Village and Abbey Roads in Enfield. It explores the lives of people in the flats and how, without realising it, their lives affect each other.
Both Pui and Laura will be taking questions from the audience after the films have been shown and later there will be a reception where refreshments will be served.
Cllr Paul McCannah, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, “These two filmmakers deserve our support and I hope that people will come to the screening and celebrate their talent.
“The Enfield Film Fund has been running since 2002 and previous winners have gone on to considerable success, screening their films at the Clermont Ferrand International film festival in France, New York Independent Film and video festival and The Sundance Festival in Utah.”
