On Tuesday 3rd June Safer Neighbourhood Officers were on patrol around the Shires Estate in Edmonton due to the reported problems with youths in that area, when in Fairfield Road they saw two young men behaving suspiciously in a car.

Both youths were searched, and on them police found a bag containing several wraps of cannabis and crack cocaine. A further quantity of cannabis was found in a bag belonging to the second youth.

Both were arrested for Possession with Intent to Supply. Searches of their addresses and extensive enquiries revealed a further quantity of cannabis, but also property which related to a robbery that had occurred in Brettenham Road, N18 in December, and also items relating to a theft from a car in Warrick Road, N18 in January.

Most worrying was that a quantity of weapons were also found.

The men were further arrested on Suspicion of Robbery and Theft from Motor Vehicle and are currently now on bail whilst enquiries are made in relation to all the above matters.

Cllr Matthew Laban, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety said “What began as a routine stop and a simple drugs find, escalated into the discovery of some very nasty looking weapons.

“Thank goodness the Safer Neighbourhood Officers arrested these men when they did. The borough is a safer place for their patrols."
