Brimsdown infants and junior schools at Green Street, Enfield, are merging to become a new all through primary school under one head teacher and governing body from 1st September this year.

The decision follows a period of consultation with parents and staff at the end of last year, plus a visit to both schools by the government’s Schools Adjudicator, Canon Richard Lindley on 10th March and a public meeting.

Canon Lindley came to the view that, “Amalgamation would be in the long-term interests of children and their education.”

The governing bodies of both schools recommended amalgamation to Enfield Council following the retirement of the junior school headteacher at the end of the summer term 2007.

Peter Lewis, director of education, children’s services and leisure, said, “The new, single school will provide a consistent and cohesive approach to learning and teaching, curriculum delivery and attainment across all year groups.

“As one school it will enable the financial resources available to be used more efficiently. Improved career opportunities within the school will aid staff recruitment and retention.”

A programme of alterations to provide a new main entrance and enlarged staff and office facilities will be starting during the year to enable the buildings to operate as a single school.
