Enfield Council’s consultation about tackling homelessness in the borough continues with an upcoming all day event on 10 June 2008 “What do we do about Homelessness in Enfield?”

This is another chance for anyone interested in, or affected by homelessness to influence how the borough will provide services in the next 5 years. Everyone is welcome to share their views and ideas.

The event will include several discussion groups on the prevention of homelessness, tackling youth homelessness, housing advice services in Enfield, the supply of affordable housing in the borough, disability and homelessness and supporting people who are homeless. There are still plenty of spaces available and admission and refreshments are free, as well as access to free advice and information available on homelessness too.

We have now also completed a survey as part of our consultation about homelessness in Enfield, which asked people whether they agreed or disagreed with our aims for tackling homelessness in the next five years.

Over 120 people took part either through completing the survey on the council’s website, or by completing a paper version; and 80 of these also took part in our fabulous Prize Draw.

The Draw took place on Friday 30 May 2008 by Ray James, Director of Health and Adult Care Services (shown above), and the winner of the first prize (£50 vouchers to spend at Marks and Spencers) was Selina Wiredu from Palmers Green. The second prize (£25 vouchers to spend at Waitrose) was won by Ms S. Raby from Edmonton.

Cllr Matthew Laban, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety said “Everyone interested in homelessness in the borough should attend this event.

“There are workshops on the day about homelessness prevention, tackling youth homelessness, housing supply, the importance of good housing advice and much more..

“It will be a fascinating day, which will contribute to a revised Homelessness Strategy by the end of July.”
