This week the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) announced that the Edmonton Leisure Centre is to be featured in the London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide for Paralympic sport.

In the training period before the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, competing countries in wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby will be able to train at the Edmonton Leisure Centre.

Assessed by the exacting standards of the National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) for the sports of wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby the Edmonton Centre was also able to demonstrate that it is a multi-sports venue with the stringent infrastructure and accessibility requirements of the NPCs.

The Edmonton Leisure Centre can also demonstrate a capability in hosting disability sport and a commitment to cooperating with NPCs to ensure that adequate provisions would be made to accommodate their requirements.

Cllr Jon Kaye, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, ”Edmonton is a first class centre where top athletes in these wheelchair sports will be able to use exceptional facilities.

“Our staff are trained to the highest standards and will be on hand to ensure that the pre-games training period meets every requirement.”
