National grid Enfield town road works on the move
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-06-18 17:11:44Enfield Council has vowed to keep up the pressure on National Grid who will be extending their road works in Enfield Town tomorrow.
Phase 1 of the Road Works has been completed on schedule with Phase 2 starting tomorrow (19th June).
It means the temporary closure of Silver Street – northbound for three weeks.
Vehicles traveling either northbound along London Road or Eastbound along Church Street wishing to turn into Silver Street Northbound will be re-directed along Southbury Road to the junction with Willow Road and then into Parsonage Lane to the traffic lights at the junction of Silver Street.
Councillor Terry Neville – cabinet member for environment said: “We recognise the disruption and inconvenience this will cause residents and motorists but
National Grid has insisted that these works are essential to the continued safety of the local gas supply.
“However as a Council we will keeping a very close eye on the situation and will be using all our powers to ensure these works are completed either before schedule or on time at least.”
Cllr Neville said motorists who use the Town as a through route to the A10 should seek alternative routes but stressed those wanting to shop in the Town had hundreds of parking spaces to make the most of.
He said: “With bus and train services running normally and around 1500 parking spaces available, Enfield Town is still very much open for business.”
But Cllr Neville warned motorists falling foul of parking restrictions would be dealt with strongly.
He said: “We want to keep traffic moving and as such, some on street parking will be reduced to facilitate the works. It means we will have to take a tough line on traffic offences.”
