This Saturday 26th April, Enfield Library Service is gearing up to receive high numbers of new members as part of the National Year of Reading’s new national initiative ‘Join A Library Day’.

And on Thursday 1st May Enfield Town Library opens its doors at Thomas Hardy House in London Road, Enfield Town to even more library joiners.

‘Join a Library Day’ is part of the National Year of Reading’s campaign to encourage parents, children and young people to join their local library.

For the first time ever, the National Year of Reading and the Society of Chief Librarians have developed a universal library membership form – a simple form that can be used to join any library in England.

Cllr Paul McCannah, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, “All you have to do is fill in the form and take one form of ID to join up. Easy! Even easier, children do not need to bring any ID.

“In addition, the first 500 children, young people and families that join Enfield Town Library and or any Enfield library will receive a free copy of the exclusive National Year of Reading’s The Ultimate Book Guide and a library welcome pack.

“Librarians in all our libraries will be on hand to advise on the range of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs and events and reading projects taking place in the library. New member packs will be available in all Enfield libraries.”

To join an Enfield Town Library simply cut-out and complete the library membership form in this week’s issue of the Independent/Advertiser and take it along to Enfield Town on Thursday – or you my choose any local on any day during the Year of Reading.

Join A Library Day launches a diverse on-going programme of activity in libraries across the country throughout the National Year of Reading including reading festivals and author visits. Full details of what's going on can be found on www.yearofreading.org.uk
