If the London Marathon gave medals for successfully coaching novice and improving runners, Maggie Govender would be among the finalists.

Maggie is a UK Athletics qualified coach, who coaches jogging sessions on Sunday mornings at Forty Hall for Enfield’s Sports Development Team. She helped seven Enfield runners, including four first-timers, to run the 26-mile course, raising over £9,000 for charity in the process.

Paula Sordillo and Georgina Clinch finished in 4 hours 30 minutes and 3 hours 59 minutes respectively, raising £2,500 between them for The Oaks at Chase Farm, a unit that meets the needs of elderly patients with mental ill health, including Alzheimer’s patients.

Julie Norton got round in 3 hours 43 minutes, and collected £3,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Kate Lowe made £1,800 for the NSPCC, finishing in 5 hours and 53 minutes.

Husband and wife Theresa and Paul Bliss finished the course in 4 hours and 46 minutes and 4 hours 03 minutes respectively, raising £2,000 for SENSE.

And Karen Levy finished in 3 hours and 52 minutes.

Congratulations to all the runners including Maggie for their achievements and for raising so much money.

Anyone from first-time runners to future Olympians can benefit from Maggie’s training wisdom.

Enfield’s Sports Development organises jogging sessions for all abilities from Forty Hall at 10.30am on Sundays and Power Walking on Wednesdays 5.00pm in Enfield Town Park, coached by Maggie.

Cllr Paul McCannah, cabinet member for leisure, culture and Olympics, said, ”There are opportunities for all kinds of training - running, jogging, power walking and strolls in our parks – something to suit most abilities and it’s all good fun.”
