Children across the borough were celebrating this week as the Government announced £2.5m was coming to Enfield to help support play through the Government's Pathfinder scheme.

The money, which will go towards play areas, adventure playgrounds, improving road safety and creating more play friendly public areas, was part of £235m pledged nationwide.

The scheme advocates a greater voice for young people in the provision of play opportunities, and recommends asking children and young people how satisfied they are with their local play areas and parks.

Money will also be allocated to boosting the skills of staff involved in playwork in the borough.

Cllr Glynis Vince, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services said “It is really important to have safe and exciting places where children of all ages can play, have fun, and let off steam in areas all across the borough.

“This money is a fantastic contribution which will allow us to begin work on an adventure playground in the Florence Hayes Recreation Ground in Snells Park. We are also looking to build three more play facilities across the borough, especially aimed at those aged between 8 to 13. It is also important to us to make sure there are places where disabled children can play, this Pathfinder money will all go towards these worthy schemes.

"In addition, we can ensure that we involve children and young people right from the outset, asking them what facilities they want to see, and where do they want to see them?

“Every child has a right to be able to access somewhere safe to play, nearby to wherever they live, this money will help us make that a reality in Enfield.”
