Thirteen Enfield school children aged between10 and 12 have been invited to the Chelsea and Westminster hospital in May to perform a dance interpretation that explores their own human differences and similarities.

This mixed group includes seven children who attend Enfield’s special schools. Children with learning difficulties have been working with mainstream children to produce a moving and searching dance sequence.

Their recent success at the Enfield Grammar School involved a 30 - minute dance performance called, ‘Moving Away, Coming Together’, followed by a question and answer session with the audience.

Enfield’s arts officer, Zoe Prosser, said, “Inspired by a visit to the Tate Modern gallery in March, where they viewed the cracked floor installation, the children used this experience to challenge themselves and create their own dance.”

During the month long preparation and rehearsal period, pioneering dance company, Falling Wide, was engaged to choreograph the dance.

Zoe continued, “With Falling Wide’s expertise the children produced a superb piece that both challenges them and their audiences. The invitation to take the production to the Chelsea and Westminster hospital venue is a testament to the quality of this thoughtful work.”

At the hospital the children will be performing before patients, staff and visitors.

Cllr Paul McCannah, cabinet member for culture, leisure and Olympics, added, “It is encouraging to see projects like this developing and bringing so much pleasure to performers and audiences.”
