Enfield Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT), are working in partnership with Enfield Council, the police and a number of other agencies to hold a series of events to promote ‘National Tackling Drugs Week’.

There will be a week long series of activities to:
Raise awareness and promote good work undertaken by key agencies within Enfield
Tackle drugs and reduce drug-related crime
Highlight the wide range of activities and services available in the local area
There will also be targeted leafleting of service information across the borough throughout the week, information and awareness stalls at Edmonton Green (20th & 21st May 08) and Community House (22nd May 08), and an exciting exhibition of artwork by current service users of Touchstone at Edmonton Green Shopping Centre (19th – 23rd May 08). Plus Open Days at Lifeline Sort It Enfield’s Young People’s Substance Misuse Service (19th – 23rd May 08), and an open afternoon at Rugby House, Forest Primary Care Centre in Edmonton (23rd May 08).
Cllr Mathew Laban, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety said, “National Tackling Drugs Week has thrown up some fascinating facts about drugs and what we are doing in Enfield to tackle this problem.
“For example the numbers of people entering Enfield’s Substance Misuse treatment services has risen. This is positive because people are coming forward due to the increased flexibility and choice within these services.
“In addition, Enfield Drug Interventions Programme is contributing to a reduction in drug-related crime in the local area. Since the onset of DIP across the UK (the 12 months to March 2003) recorded crime - to which drug-related crime makes a significant contribution - has fallen by around 20%, this is great news.
“As well as this, information is being offered to parents, families and schools on the dangers of drug misuse through Lifeline Sort It, Enfield’s Young People’s Substance Misuse Service and the borough Schools Drug Advisor.
“Local Neighbourhood policing teams are also working proactively with partner agencies to ensure that community concerns about drugs are reported and acted upon, and our local police are cracking down on drug-related crime; crack houses and cannabis factories are being closed.
“Partnership is a key theme of National Tackling Drugs Week within Enfield. Together Enfield’s partners are tackling drugs, changing lives and making a tangible difference to communities, families and individuals across the borough.”
