Children bowled over by new sport
Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-06-03 16:18:57This Friday children aged 10 and 11 from two local primary schools are getting a taste for a sport long associated with very much older people. Yes it’s bowls.
Leslie Cohen, chairman of the Arnos Bowls Club is visiting two special bowls sessions with top Middlesex coach, Eric Pelling to encourage youngsters to take an interest in the sport and attend junior sessions at their club.
He said, “For too long bowls has been consigned to older generations – but believe me, we really have something to teach. The sport relies on good hand and eye coordination and some strategic thinking. Although it is a gentle exercise - it can be very exciting. “
There has been a lot of interest from primary schools in learning more about the sport and many of the borough’s established bowls clubs are very keen to impart some bowling knowledge on to younger generations.
