Date and Time of Publication:- 2008-06-12 15:35:16The Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Lee Chamberlain, joined with volunteers and friends of local green fingered group, the Enfield Conservation Volunteers on the 25th May to celebrate 20 years of their work in the borough at a special party.

The Group, which has 40 members, tackles environmental projects all around the borough such as removing weeds, fallen trees and stumps, clearing ponds and creating havens for wildlife to thrive.
Up and coming projects include:
• Whitewebbs Park – 22nd June – Helping to remove any vegetation to keep the aquaduct flowing.
• Hilly Fields Park – 3rd August – Cutting down encroaching vegetation. Some trees may also be felled.
• Forty Hall – 31st August – Continuing the gradual removal of the encroaching oak scrub on the Great Field.

Enfield Conservation Volunteers also desperately need more members. Anyone can join who is over 16 and in good health. No skills or experience are required as training will be provided for all aspects of the work.
Christina Lee, Rural Outreach Officer said “As we celebrated our 20th year it gave us an excellent chance to reflect not only on the work that we have been doing, but on the projects we are working on now.
“Enfield Conservation Volunteers are needed now as much as ever. Not a week goes by when we are not called upon to undertake some task in the borough.
“This is why we are calling upon anyone who is interested in the work we do to come forward as a new member, you would be extremely welcome.”
