Sat 27th January 6pm – 8.30pm, Conference Room, Enfield Civic Centre

This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day’s theme is ‘The Dignity of Difference’ and among the events, school children have been invited to take part in a poetry competition on this theme.

Winners from three age groups 8 – 11, 12- 14, and 15 – 18 will be reading their poems at a special event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day this year and will be presented with prizes.

Holocaust Memorial Day is an international day commemorating the liberation by Soviet soldiers on 27th January 1945, of prisoners held in the notorious concentration camp at Auschwitz in Poland. Prisoners in Auschwitz and other camps were the victims of the Nazi regime that persecuted and murdered people because they were different.

Cllr Ertan Hurer, cabinet member for community safety and the voluntary sector, said, ”Respecting and celebrating our differences are the first steps to understanding. Holocaust Memorial Day asks us to reflect on this year’s theme as we build stronger communities.”
