Council Issues Weather Warning Advice
Date and Time of Publication:- 2007-02-07 16:44:57ENFIELD Council has issued advice on how to cope with the expected heavy snow tomorrow.
The risk of disruption during tomorrow morning's rush hour has been raised to 90% for the London area, with the main area of concern likely to be to the north and west of central London where 10-15 cm of snow is possible.
The authority has urged motorists to take extra care and parents to check with schools tomorrow to see if they are open.
Peter Lewis - Enfield Council's Director of Education said: "We are expecting schools to be open however parents should check with their child's school on whether they are open before they make their journey to school."
Parents can either call their local school or check on their website. Alternatively the council will update its website once the authority has been advised by schools on whether they are open or not.
Other advice includes:
• Don’t make any unnecessary journeys in your car – particularly long ones. If you must make a journey check the traffic report and ensure you have blankets, snacks and drinks in your car.
• Check whether schools are open
• If you live far from work, make arrangements so you can work at home if you have problems getting in.
• Check beforehand whether trains/tubes are operating as normal.
• Keep your mobile phone charged so you remain contactable to family and friends
• Keep some cash on you for hot drinks and if you need to take an alternative route home
• Make sure your outdoor pets are warm enough
• Check on elderly and vulnerable neighbours, friends and relatives to make sure they are ok
• Dress warmly and drive carefully
