This is the second year of the ‘Youth Opportunity Fund Enfield’, which is now open for new ideas from young people aged 13 – 19 years (up to 25 for young people with special needs).
Enfield Council’s youth service is administering the £400,000 of government funding and is expecting to attract young people whose ideas and activities can get off to a flying start.

The YOFE (Youth Opportunities Fund Enfield) gives young people a voice in the provision of services and activities for their communities – and provides the cash for successful ideas.
From the application process - right through to the judging - young people are in control. A panel of trained young people will be making the final decisions on the projects and ideas that are successful.
YOFE co-ordinator Pink Ross, said, “Some project ideas require just a few hundred pounds – such as last year’s “Home Corner” (carpet, books and toys) at a weekly ‘Young Mums’ meeting, while others needed thousands of pounds for musical instruments for a band in Ponders End.
“Other successful projects include a seven metre high climbing wall that can be transported around the borough, 150 free leisure passes for young carers for a year and new activities for young people with special needs.
“An exciting development is the residential weekends away where groups of young people take part in team building activities.”
Peter Lewis, director of education, children’s services and leisure, said, “The Youth Opportunity Fund gives young people the chance to develop good ideas and see them actually happen. This is a great scheme on every level. – respecting young people’s ideas, abilities and judgment. Over the last year some first class schemes have started.”
Cllr Glynis Vince, cabinet member for education, children’s services and young people added, “Once again young people are proving that they have something worthwhile to offer and I have every confidence that they will come forward with great plans and ideas this year.”
Applications close at 5pm on Friday 20th July. The final decisions on successful applications are expected in the following two weeks.
