Wheeled bin update

Over 18,000 properties have moved onto the new service since being launched in 2009. All remaining kerbside properties will receive a new collection service over the period up to December 2012. The vast majority will be receiving wheeled bins with the few properties with insufficient storage space receiving sacks for refuse and recycling.

 

All households will receive full information on the new service a couple of months before bin deliveries take place. This information will include details of how to request slimline bins and how households can shares bins with neighbours.

 

Wheeled bins make it easier and more convenient to recycle as well as allow to you recycle all types of food waste for the first time. They also mean that sacks torn by animals are a thing of the past making Enfield's streets cleaner.

 

Findings from the pilot evaluation show that:
  • When rolled out Borough wide Enfield's recycling rate could reach as much as 47% (currently 30%.)
  • Wheeled bins have led to a 60% reduction in street litter in the pilot areas.
  • The Council and residents could save as much as £1,000,000 in waste disposal charges when the scheme is rolled out the Borough.
  • In addition to the extremely positive data from the evaluation, findings from the residents survey show:
  • 88% of all respondents are satisfied with the new refuse and recycling service.
  • 87% agree that 'The wheeled bins help me store my waste and recycling more easily.'
  • 86% agree that 'That wheeled bins have allowed me to recycle more.'
  • 70% agree that there was 'less litter' on their streets.
