Older People – Take Control Event, Dugdale Centre, Enfield
4th October, 10.30am – 4.30pm

To mark ‘Older People’s Day’ on Friday 4 October, Enfield Council and its partners have organised ‘Older People Take Control’ a lively free event at the Dugdale Centre in Enfield Town.

Cllr Don McGowan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Care & Health, said, “We want to tell older people about the services and options open to them in Enfield  Getting older is not just about health and care – although this is important. We want to show older people how they can maintain good health; enjoy exercise and leisure pursuits and of course have some fun.

“The day offers an exciting programme with free health checks; legal advice sessions; how to get involved in community activities and many stallholders will be joining us to explain what they have to offer. This will be a great day for all our older residents – they will be in control.”

The programme includes:

Gearing Up for Winter: Get a health check and find out how to arrange a jab to avoid coughs, sneezes and diseases; and find out more about feeling safe and secure and keeping your home warmer and in good repair this winter, helping reduce your energy bills;

Everybody active: Find out more about the huge range of activities available across the Borough suited to everyone’s abilities and interests, from getting fit at leisure centres to ballroom dancing and walking. Enjoy a free Tai-Chi taster session and learn about how simple exercise can help avoid trips, slips and falls;
 Get involved: Hear about opportunities to have your say in local services you use and learn more about volunteering across the borough;

Prepare for the future: Find out more about making a will and how to make sure you can make arrangements for you and your loved ones after you’ve gone. Hear about how people can take control of their care as they approach the end of their life.

No booking is required for this free event: simply drop in at any point during the day! We will be taking over much of the Dugdale Centre and its café, and workshops about the above topics will be held throughout the day.
