Stories bring building project to life

Published Tuesday, 15 October 2013

Richard Neville, a professional story collector, has been asked by Enfield Council to meet people who live in around Ordnance Road and bring their memories to life.

The project will take the form of a series of recollections and pictures and be called "Stories from the street"

Cllr Christine Hamilton, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing & Public Health, said, “These stories will form a narrative of times past in the area, and they will decorate and inform people on parts of the hoardings outside the building works of the new public centre under construction.

“We want to engage the public throughout this project and hope they will find this an interesting way to take part.”

Grahams Construction Company is replacing the old Ordnance Road library with the addition of dental and doctor’s surgeries and a community space.

Richard’s first meeting is with 97 year old Edwin Harrison who lives next door to the works and has watched the demolition of the old building with interest.

Richard, says, “People’s memories always provide a fascinating glimpse of the recent past and will bring a renewed interest in the building as the project develops.”
