Barrowell Green temporary closure

Published Thursday, 09 January 2014

Enfield Council's Barrowell Green Household Waste and Recycling Centre will be closed for part of February while it undergoes a £25,000 refurbishment of its weighbridge.

The centre will be closed from Tuesday 4 February to Tuesday 11 February while essential repair work to replace the site’s vehicle weighbridge takes place.

Residents can use mini-recycling sites located across the borough for small electrical devices, textiles and mixed dry recycling while the centre is closed, they are located at:
• Tesco (Savoy Parade)
 • Tesco (High Street - Ponders End)
 • Co-Op unity superstore (Hertford Road)
 • Morrisons (Aldermans Hill)
 • Morrisons (Southbury Road)
 • Sainsburys (Floreys Square)

Alternatively residents can use the following sites in neighbouring boroughs while the recycling centre is closed:
 • Summers Lane Recycling Centre, Summer Lane, Barnet
 • Park View Recycling Centre, Park View Road, Tottenham
• Kings Road Recycling Centre, Kings Road, Chingford

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "Barrowell Green Recycling Centre is a popular and well used facility but like any busy site it needs regular maintenance to keep it in tip top condition.

“These works are absolutely crucial in ensuring this site continues to provide a high quality service to our residents and play a vital role in helping us to manage our waste for years to come. We will do everything we can to work as quickly as possible and minimise disruption to people living nearby.”

The weighbridge is used to monitor the weight of the materials removed from the recycling centre, enabling the council to keep accurate records, which are a legal requirement, as well as to confirm invoices received from our contractors.

A faulty weighbridge would result in inaccurate records and the council could be overcharged by contractors therefore spending more money than it needed to.
