Ticketless parking introduced

Published Friday, 20 December 2013

A new parking system in Palace Gardens Shopping Centre is proving a big hit with motorists after it was launched by Enfield Council earlier this month.

The ticketless system works by filming the number plates of cars as they enter the car park. Shoppers then visit a ticket machine when they are due to leave the car park, select their vehicle from a choice on a screen, pay their car parking charge and leave. If the scheme is successful it may  be extended to other council car parks

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: “This scheme gives shoppers flexibility, saves us money by reducing overheads and means motorists don’t have to worry about rooting around for change when they first arrive at the car park.

“So far it has been very successful and all the indications are that this scheme has been welcomed by motorists.”

Council officers were on duty in the car park for the first two weeks of the scheme’s operation to explain the changes to shoppers.
