Efficient working pays for council

Published Thursday, 19 December 2013

It was announced this week that Notley High School in Braintree, Essex has asked Enfield Council’s payroll service to administer the school’s pay with effect from January 2014.

Notley High School will become the third academy located outside the borough that Enfield Council provides a payroll service to, joining Broxbourne School in Hertfordshire and Ramsey Academy in Essex.

Following on from this, Enfield Council has also signed up both Fleecefield School and St Matthew’s School in Enfield to return to the payroll service from April 2014.

At present Enfield Council also administers the payroll and ensures statutory compliance for all of its own staff, as well as providing a service to Enfield Homes, former council staff (pensioners) and 82 of the 87 schools and academies within the borough.

Cllr Andrew Stafford, Cabinet Member for Finance and Property for Enfield Council said “The reputation for excellence teamed with the professionalism of our payroll team in Enfield Council is stronger than ever. This means that their services are now under great demand.

“Schools are allowed to source their payroll services with either a local authority or private provider; however we have been approached by some schools who tell us that private providers often fail to meet certain key standards.

“Enfield Council’s payroll team understands how schools operate, and have specialist knowledge of payroll compliance teamed with excellent tailored customer service. I also believe our ability to be flexible, whilst adhering to statutory legislation is another great strength.

“The more schools and academies that sign up to Enfield Council’s payroll service is good news, as it brings in vital funding to help improve services for local people.

“I am delighted to hear that three more schools will be joining our services in 2014, and hope to hear of more doing so in the future.”
