Jingles all the Way with Festive Walk

Published Tuesday, 10 December 2013

This week festive fever was in the air as over 70 people took part in a special Jingle Bell Walk in Jubilee Park in Edmonton. Organised by Enfield Council’s Everybody Active Team the walk is an annual event that is run to coincide with the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

The walk involved children from West Lea and Oaktree Special Schools and Galliard School, who throughout the walk wore jingle bells on their shoelaces and coats so they could ‘jingle’ around the park. The children were joined by older members of the community.

This year was the first year at Jubilee Park, and thanks to a kind request from the Friends of Jubilee Park, Father Christmas even took time out from his busy schedule to come along and give each child a present personally! There was even special Christmas canine capers as a group of dog walkers brought down their festive decorated dogs for the children to walk with.

Local shops including Morrisons, Co-Op and Tesco donated some of the food which made it even more special for the children. The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Ingrid Cranfield joined in and spent time with everyone afterwards.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture said “This year’s Jingle Bell Walk really pulled out all the stops to make the day extra special for all the children involved.

“From the visit from Santa to the parade of festive dogs, it sounds like everyone had an absolutely wonderful time.

“I would like to thank the Everybody Active Team, the Friends of Jubilee Park and the local shops who donated food and drinks who all enabled this to happen.”
