‘Ordnance Unity Centre’ is the winning name for Enfield’s newest development now under construction on the corner of Ordnance and Hertford Roads.

This was the unanimous choice in a competition organised by Enfield Council for local residents to come up with a name for the building that is offering four distinct services - a new library, a doctor’s surgery, a dental practice and a community hall.

Eighty seven year old Renee Jones and 18 year old Luciana Gammallieri are the joint winners of the competition.

Renee, said, “I have lived in Enfield since 1950 and have now reached the grand old age of 87. My reason for the name ‘Unity’ is because I have shopped at the Co Op Unity building for many years. Also Unity Road is opposite the proposed new building.”

Luciana, added, “This name ties the four aspects of the centre together and I like the fact that the word unity appears in community. It reinforces the fact that the centre is for the local community.”

Graham Construction the company building the centre is providing each winner with a £50 high street voucher and also donating £200 to local good causes chosen by the winners. Renee has chosen Waverly School and Luciana has chosen the North London Hospice.

Both Renee and Luciana will be invited to take part in the opening ceremony when the building is completed in the autumn next year.
