Metal licence fees set

Published Friday, 25 October 2013

Fees for people who deal and move scrap metal about have been agreed by Enfield Council.

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 came into effect on October 1 and requires scrap metal dealers and motor salvage operators to hold a valid licence permitting them to operate as a dealer and allow the movement of metal to and from the site.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: “We have the responsibility to licence and inspect scrap metal dealers and the new licence fees are designed to help us cover our costs in doing so.

“We have a very important role to play in tackling metal theft in this borough and the effective licensing of the trade will help us stamp out cowboy traders, build stronger relationships with legal dealers and spot potential suspicious activity where the theft of metal is concerned.”

Site licences will cost £680 and Collectors licences will cost £325, renewal costs will be £479 and £193. All licences are valid for three years.
