The borough's cabinet decided on Wednesday night (Oct 16) to proceed with the scheme following the decision to sell the Southgate Town Hall site earlier this year, construction work is expected to start in July 2014.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Youth and Localism, Cllr Bambos Charalambous, said: “Prior to redeveloping the library we will consult extensively with users so that the services it provides are the ones that people actually want.

“These plans will mean an extensive range of resources that people can borrow, as well as Wi-Fi facilities and public access computers.

“We are absolutely committed to providing first rate facilities for our communities and upgrading and improving the services we currently have. This development will significantly improve Palmers Green Library and make sure it can provide everything a 21st century facility should.”
